Help File & Manual WritingGood manuals and help files are essential for any computer user. Unfortunately the job of preparing such materials is often delegated to programmers who understand jargon, rather than users who do not! Moreover, they are written with little regard to sustaining the user's interest! I have a capacity to explain complex things in very simple terms. Throughout this site you will see many examples of my ability to describe aspects of computing in terms which are easy to understand, although I do assume some general experience of computers in these particular pages, and I have written the advice in a rather "dry" way in many places - for reasons of time, I have been unable to add illustrations, diagrams, etc. I am, however, capable of simplifying things further, and writing attention-grabbing manuals for absolute beginners. I have also written an extensive tutorial on how to use streaming media software for a site I was recently involved in helping to administer. It's not a work of art and I did not pay a lot of attention to the stylistic aspect (!) but I think it is very clear, albeit perhaps now rather dated! |
