Technical Support

I am able to provide technical support in terms of hardware and software upgrading, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, etc.

My experience with the operating systems / software aspect of computing is covered in more detail in a number of other pages in this site.

In terms of hardware most of my experience has come via practical sessions through Scheidegger Training, and also adding new components to my own pc. I have also had some training in and experience of networks, although my stongest area is with standalone personal computers. For my qualifications please refer to my page on this subject.

The following is a list of the main topic areas covered in the Scheiddegger course, and the Networking Course I undertook at Lewisham College:

Test Equipment
Multimeters, digital and analogue, measuring supply voltages at PSU and disk drive, resistance checks: continuity of external cables and connectors.

Operating System Configuration and File Systems
DOS/Windows installation and configuration procedures, system boot sequences, device drivers and their configuration, DOS and Windows system files, file management, disk management.
Networking
Network types and topologies (LAN, WAN, peer, server, bus, star, ring, etc.), cabling and connections (co-axial, twisted pair, fibre-optics, etc.), wireless systems, network adpater card configuration, protocols, network operating system installation and configuration (esp. Win 2000 Professional and Server), the OSI Model, etc., etc.
Portable Computer Systems
The major differences between desktop and portable systems and problems specific to the latter.
Troubleshooting, Repair and Diagnostics, Preventative Maintenance
