Computer Tuition & Training - My Experience
< previous
In the summer of 2001 I started to teach computing on a professional basis, having previously helped people on an informal basis. This involved use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint, the internet, email, how to make backups, how to use anti-virus software, how to use streaming media applications (such as Real Player), among other things. I learned just how important it is to be able to adapt to the specific needs of the student.
I also have previous experience of creating and delivering adult education courses for the Workers' Educational Association (back in the 1980's while I was studying for my PhD).
Presently I am assisting the Skye and Lochalsh Learning Centre Network and Training & Guidance (TAG) in developing and delivering IT courses. These roles are not necessarily permanent and therefore I have to keep my options open as regarding employment.
It feels good to master new skills, and this can improve the morale of staff, who will begin to take pride in their work as they see how well they can adapt to new tasks on a computer without having to struggle.
