Programming

I started out by learning the basics of Visual Basic, namely how to design the visual interface, and write simple code for the functioning of the various command buttons, text boxes, labels, combo boxes, list boxes, option buttons, check boxes, scrollbars, etc., etc. I learnt how to construct arguments using variables, constants and functions, string manipulation, arithmetic, logical and comparison operators, If-Then-ElseIf statements, Select Case statements, Do While, Do Until and For Next loops etc., etc. It was only an introduction and I am certainly not an expert but I have learnt how to write simple routines.

I also has some familiarity with Java and JavaScript.

In summer 2004 I was trained in the basics of PHP and MySQL by Kevin Mackenzie of Fileanta. I gained a better understanding of the workings of database-driven websites, and how to write simple scripts. I managed to build, unaided, as an exercise, a simple content management system, after I completed the course and I am happy to send you the files if you want to see a sample of my own work. However I do not regard myself as a web-scripter or a programmer, but rather a website administrator who knows a bit about how scripts work and how to tweak them when required.
