Recent Experience 2003 - 2004 and Current Projects 2005

In late winter 2003 I started work with NetMedia Business Solutions Ltd near Inverness, as a search engine optimisation consultant. Unfortunately, the owner was not able to persuade enough of his existing customers to take on the service so I was made redundant in the summer.

In the latter half of 2003, I continued developing my skills, doing a bit of ad hoc work for friends, and continuing to learn about various aspects of working with computers.

I spent late winter and spring 2004 gaining valuable experience through doing voluntary computer tuition work for The Skye and Lochalsh Learning Centres Network (SLLCN), and Training and Guidance (TAG) Portree, and then received training in web-scripting (PHP/MySQL) via Fileanta in Broadford during the summer.

At the end of summer 2004 I was taken on by New Broom Software Ltd. My role was, primarily, working on the Graphical User Interface and tutorials for the new version of TOPS, plus "data cleansing" for the old version so that client's data was reformatted into a suitable form for use with the software, and the maintainence and development of the company websites, including search engine optimisation. At the beginning of March 2004, I went self-employed, although continuing to do some work for New Broom.

Currently I am also working on a project developing the Skye & Lochalsh Learning Centre Network website - mainly producing pages using Sitekit CMS - but have not had any hand in designing / styling this website - the site layout is controlled by Gaelnet. Typically, I do not take on design roles but I do take existing designs and work with them. For example, I adapted the style of the New Broom Software site to produce The Order Processing Solution site which contains the signup / registration forms and tutorials and pricing plans for the software - these pages using varied structures. I consulted Steven Ballantyne, the original designer, at each stage of the process in order to maintain a look-and-feel consistent with the original site. I also adapted both sites to use SSI for ease of updating.

I still have room to take on other projects.
