Installing Software Safely - Checking the Downloaded Setup File
< previous
Scan the new software with your anti-virus programme prior to installation, especially if you have downloaded the software over the internet where viruses can infect servers.
Make sure that your anti-virus software is properly updated. It is not a bad idea to wait a few days after downloading software from the internet until your anti-virus software has received its latest set of updates, so that if the programme you have downloaded has a new virus, your anti-virus software will be able to detect it!
Check also that your anti-virus software can scan within compressed files, especially those with a .exe or .zip extension. It is important that the scan is carried out prior to installation as we will have to de-activate the anti-virus programme immediately before we install the new software - more later.
