Installing Software Safely - Emergency Boot DiskMake an emergency boot disk if you dont already have one. The simplest way to do this in Windows 98 is via Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Startup Disk | Create Disk. You will be prompted to insert your Windows CD-ROM and then follow the on-screen instructions from there. Emergency boot disks can also be downloaded via bootdisk.com or you can create your own by copying the files msdos.sys, io.sys and command.com to a floppy disk. (You may see another method proposed whereby you type sys a: or format a: /s at a command prompt or right click on the floppy drive icon and choose to copy system files, but these methods will not copy a full version of msdos.sys to your floppy, and therefore wont enable you to boot fully into Windows). |
